Lessons from the Artisan Market: From Creative to Confident
[Whimsy Art Club Artisan Market Tent]
This past Saturday (8/2), Whimsy Art Club joined our very first artisan market — and I left with so much more than I expected.
Starting this creative journey and business has been deeply rewarding, but also deeply personal. For much of it, it’s been just me — my thoughts, my opinions, my vision — trying to perfect everything before it ever sees the light of day. Coming from a past career where I had teams, colleagues, and constant collaboration, going solo has been...quiet. And honestly, a bit lonely at times. Not having someone to bounce ideas off of made me question myself more than I’d like to admit.
I also found myself hesitating to put Whimsy out there. I’d delay visiting local shops, avoid initiating conversations, and think, “I’m not a salesperson.” Vulnerability and shyness were always present, and I assumed that promoting my business meant pushing people to buy something. That never felt like me.
But this market shifted everything.
I met moms who lit up talking about their little ones and their creativity. I talked with elders who loved our giant nature loom and joyfully joined our “try-me” art experiences. I met curious passersby who simply wanted to know what we do and why we do it. No pressure, no sales pitch — just connection.
And the best part? I didn’t leave feeling drained. I left energized. Empowered. Certain.
I realized this is what I want Whimsy Art Club to stand for — not just art kits or classes, but real community and meaningful moments.
As creative entrepreneurs, we’re wired to keep creating. But if we never pause to connect, collaborate, or even pivot, we miss the bigger transformation: becoming not just a creative individual with a business — but a creative entrepreneur with the ability to lead, grow, and inspire.
I’m so excited for what’s ahead. And I can’t wait for the next market — not to sell, but to connect.
Thanks to everyone who made this first one so magical 💛
