Why I Started Whimsy Art Club

I moved a lot growing up. About every three years, my parents packed up our lives to head to the next Air Force base—and I had no choice but to follow. Most of our moves were within Korea, but there were bigger shifts too: Texas, the Philippines, St. Louis, Irvine. And finally college at Rhode Island & now settled in New Jersey! Phew. What a journey it’s been!

I was born an extrovert, but all that constant change slowly molded me into a quiet, anxious introvert. With every move, I had to start over—new school, new environment, new everything. I remember being so unsure of myself. Is my outfit cool enough? Will I make friends? Will they understand me? All the classic worries of a kid trying to fit in somewhere new... again and again.

But through it all, one thing remained consistent: art class.

As cliché as it may sound, art was my safe space. And not just because I was “good at it”—it was deeper than that. Art didn’t require perfect language skills. It didn’t matter where I was or how much I had changed. It was grounding. I still remember how warm, kind, and welcoming my art teachers were. There was a connection in those rooms that I rarely found anywhere else in school.

Fast forward to adulthood—I spent 12 years working in the fast-paced corporate world of NYC as an architectural designer. I climbed the ladder, made the six-figure salary, checked all the boxes…but something inside me longed to return to that safe, creative space I found as a child.

That’s why I started Whimsy Art Club.

My vision is simple: to create a warm, welcoming, safe space where every child—whether wild, shy, loud, quiet, or a little mischievous—feels seen and celebrated.

Because I’ve been that kid. And I know how powerful it is to be given a space to create, explore, and just be.

To deepen my impact, I am pursuing additional studies and certifications in art therapy practice, STEAM education, and play based teaching. My heart is fully in this. My mission is to help kids feel the joy, release, and empowerment that art can bring—and to open their eyes to the vast, inspiring world that’s waiting for them.

So please—join me on this journey. Let’s create something magical together with Whimsy Art Club. Let’s build a world where creativity leads the way, and every child feels at home.
